What to expect at our photo session:
If we meet at your home, I'll look around for the best lighting. It's usually by a window that the sun shines through. We may need to move couches around to get the right set up. We may need to move décor out of the way. We can shoot outside, but it needs to be in the shade to get the best light quality. I only use natural light and prefer to shoot outside if it's possible.
If your baby gets fussy, it is okay and we can take a break till they're ready to go.
If there are specific poses you have in mind, just let me know.
With kids it's important to get them to feel comfortable with me, so we may spend some time playing games, or I'll ask them questions to get their mind off me taking their picture. The last thing you want is a bunch of “cheese” photos.
To order enlargements or canvas prints see my order form.
I shoot on location in the following cities:
Provo, Orem, Lindon, Pleasant Grove, Cedar Hills, American Fork, Highland, Alpine, Lehi, Saratoga Springs, Draper, and Suncrest.
Any place outside of that, I charge $40 travel fee for time and gas.
Here are some location ideas:
Thanksgiving Point , Children's Garden , in the foothills , Lehi urban setting amongst old buildings, BYU campus, Downtown Provo, Downtown Pleasant Grove, River bottoms near The Shops at Riverwoods, antique shop in AF, Lindon Park, Heritage Park , or at your home.
For a $40 travel fee we could have our session up American Fork Canyon , at Sundance, Bridal Veil Falls trail, Gardner Village, Murray Park, and for the adventurous: downtown SLC.
MY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT TO WEAR
First off, I ask my clients to consider what is most important to them- striking black and white prints or gorgeous rich color prints?
If black and white is your goal, I'd suggest wearing either dark or light clothes. Pastels, grays and reds don't translate well into black and white. Also I don't recommend thin stripes and plaids for black and white images.
Your child in a white or dark shirt will work great. And clothing doesn't need to be plain. I find that clothing that has added details enrich a portrait.
Location also needs to be considered in choosing clothing. If we are shooting in a park or canyon with lots of greens then you should choose a white or light colored outfit so the black and white conversion will have nice contrast. Your child in white will be the focal point.
For striking black and white newborn photos, I suggest the parent wear black and the baby be in white or just a diaper. I have several diaper covers we can use.
I prefer to shoot newborns somewhere between 1 day old and two weeks old before they loose their newborn look. A sleeping baby is the best and easiest to photograph.
Now if color prints are your main goal, then go with what will coordinate with your decor where you'll hang your photos.
There are so many fun options with color prints. Girls can wear bold, beautiful prints, and boys can wear almost any bright colors .
Hats are great accessory to consider, as they frame the face lovely.
For more info on what to wear, check out this post on another Photographer's blog that explains it exactly how I would.

Children shoots work great outdoors, like at a park or up the canyon where they can interact with nature. All we need is lots of shade or a cloudy day. Sunset lighting is also striking in a photo. I'll often suggest an evening time.
You are welcome to bring a favorite toy or prop. I love having fun with the unusual. In the past I've done children shoots with bunnies, or at grandpa's farm with the horses, or at a birthday party, or getting wet in a creek.
